Our Story

We (Jasmine Tarkeshi & Dana Flynn) are the co-creators of the School and Center at the Lotus. We opened up Laughing Lotus Yoga Center in 2000 to inspire devotion, celebrate community and spiritual life.

The Center began on a rooftop playground in New York City in the summer of 1999. We met in 1998 and discovered our shared passion for yoga, music, art, dance and transformation. This began our journey of creating the temple for self discovery, creativity and awakening, which evolved to become Laughing Lotus Yoga Centers in New York City and San Francisco.

The Lotus first opened in 2000 in Greenwich Village above a Jazz Club in a great old Brownstone overlooking Sheridan Square Park. This became a creative and fertile environment that gave birth to our celebrated School and Teacher Training. Pretty soon we grew out of our cozy nest and opened up into the 4000 square foot yogic temple in Chelsea, featuring two asana rooms with nearly 100 classes a week, three Teacher Trainings a year, ongoing workshops, intensives, and kirtans.

In 2007, we spread our wings across the country to San Francisco where Dana was born and Jasmine grew up. We transformed a plumbing garage into a colorful cosmic playground in the Mission neighborhood, celebrating the color, culture and creativity of this great city and the yoga that we love.

Jasmine and Dana are recognized as master teachers traveling and teaching both nationally and internationally. They bow deeply to all the teachers who have inspired and challenged them along their mystical way.
