There are some places on the planet that have a magic, a mystery and even a spirituality all of their own. Places of pilgrimage where devotees will plan for a lifetime to make the journey to offer their bhakti, their devotion and to find solace and a sense of peace. Bali has this special, sacred energy. The flora and fauna is so rich and lush you can’t help but feel the abundance and vibrancy of life in every tree and flower. Even the air smells sweet and good in Bali!

These spiritual places, places where worship has been done for many thousands of years, in the same way and in the same temples – over and over and over again; the practitioner calling to the Divine and asking for an awakening, an insight, a knowing – these places help us in our spiritual practice. Ultimately the practitioner will transcend time and place and will be able to sit in meditation whether waiting for a bus, positioned on a battlefield (literal or metaphorical), in a busy city, or in the jungle. But for those of us who are not quite there yet a little help is needed. Setting up the conditions for practice is helpful. The right place, the right time, the space and the teacher are all important.
